Chapter 26 Don’t You Give Up on Him Yet?
Chapter 26 Don’t You Give Up on Him Yet?
Peyton was pretty good-looking. Even when she wept silently and did not speak, she looked lovely and pitiful.
Lucian whispered to her, "Mr. Dalton is waiting for you."
Peyton, recovering her senses, touched her wet face. She realized that she had wept again.
"Lucian, I must be looking ugly now."
Lucian, who had worked for Nolan for a long time, knew exactly how bouncy and energetic Peyton used to be. It had only been two years, but Peyton seemed to have withered like a flower that had not yet reached its full bloom.
"No, you are the most beautiful one," Lucian replied and handed Peyton a napkin.
Peyton cleaned her face. "I hated those who cried all the time the most, but I never thought that I would be one of them one day. I didn't understand that the world is capricious and fate is deceitful until now."
Lucian looked into her sorrowful eyes and comforted her rarely, "Do not indulge in grief. Why don't you just take the chance to live a different life?"
Nolan modified the divorce agreement after a night of contemplation. Clearly, he had made up his mind to let bygones be bygones.
The Schmitt family had been ruined, and Kason, who bore all the blame, had been more dead than alive. As for Peyton, she had suffered a lot of torture over the past two years. Nolan decided to let her off.
That was why he agreed to give her rich compensation for divorce. He didn't wish her to be down and out the rest of her life.
It was time for Peyton to leave Nolan. As a sensible person, she should have known that Nolan would never come back to her.
She had suffered a lot in the past few years. If she continued to be obsessed, her obstinacy would drive her to tragic doom.
Peyton avoided Lucian's question and let out a sigh, "If my baby were still alive, he would be the same age as Chris."
Lucian wanted to say something else to smooth her, but at last, he only said, "You are young. Don't worry. You will have a baby again."
"I can't have a baby anymore."
Looking at her desolate face, Lucian felt somewhat strange and wanted to say something else. Just then, Peyton said, "Let's go."
Nolan had been in the car for a while. With his pretty face turning gloomy, he didn't cast a glance at Peyton at all.
After Peyton got in the car, he said indifferently with his arms crossed, "You can't get anything from me this month."
"It's enough to spend this month with you." Peyton put herself into Nolan's arms.
Before she found the evidence yesterday, she resented Nolan and wanted revenge. She felt mixed and didn't know what to do. She hated Nolan for what he had done to the Schmitt family and his betrayal of her.
However, the evidence showed that Kason was not innocent, which was indeed a shock to Peyton. Given that things had turned out like this, Peyton had no choice but to sacrifice her life to end it all. She wanted to leave with no regrets, so she made the deal with Nolan.
Nolan didn't hug Peyton. Instead, he said with a cold face, "I will be engaged to Helena next year."
In an instant, Peyton tightened her grip on his coat, and her smile froze on her face.
It was deadly silent in the car. Although the heating was on in the car, Jayson felt extremely cold.
After a long while, Peyton raised her head and said, "You can take it easy. I will leave you in a month."
Nolan couldn't help feeling complicated as he looked at her pitiful face. "Nothing between us will change in one year. let alone one month."
Peyton bit her lips. "I see. I only want you to be with me for one month. Is that okay?"
Hearing her pleading tone, Nolan thought it was another of her tricks to keep their relationship together. He did not notice a flash of seriousness in her eyes.
"Alright, I will do as you wish."
Peyton threw her arms around his waist and asked in a muffled voice, "Can you cook for me tonight?"
Nolan hesitated for a while. "OK."
It was the first time in the past year that they had been able to get on peacefully with each other. Feeling her in his arms as before, Nolan moved his fingers, but in the end, did nothing.
Not long after, the car stopped in front of the Dalton Group. Nolan got out of the car and ordered Jayson to drive Peyton back.
Peyton visited her father in the hospital. Although still in a coma, Kasson had been moved to a regular ward.
Peyton put the support worker off with excuses and cleaned Kasson's face and hands personally.
As she did so, she murmured, "Dad, I knew what you had done. I don't believe that you would hurt others. When will you wake up? Hurry up and tell me that you are not guilty at all. Okay? Tell me that you didn't kill Leilani.
"Dad, I have stomach cancer. I hid it from Nolan. Maybe it's my destiny. If I die, Nolan will probably drop his animosity.
"It's my fortune to grow up in your love. No matter what you did, you are my loving father and the man I most respect. Don't worry. I will pay for what you have done to others.
"I know that if you were conscious, you would stop me resolutely, but I really cannot help it. I love him. I fell in love with him at a glance eight years ago. I would have enjoyed it even if it had only been one month left."
Peyton kept saying by the bed for a long time.
It was all she could do for her father as her life entered the countdown.
She went back to the Dalton's mansion in the afternoon. She knew Nolan well enough to be sure that he would not go back on his word so long as he promised her.
As soon as she returned to the Dalton's mansion, Peyton saw Helena, who had been waiting for her for a long time.
Since Nolan was not present, Helena did not hide her true colors and, despite her elaborate make-up, looked fierce.
She glared at Peyton and shouted, "Don't you give up on him yet? Peyton, Nolan will never be with you anymore."
Peyton remained calm and stared at Helena, asking, "Do you love Nolan?"
The latter was surprised at her sudden question.
After a while, Helena replied, "I've been wanting him to be my husband since more than a decade ago. I knew him before you, and I love him more than you can imagine. You can't snatch him away from me."
Peyton gave a bitter smile, "I know."
She looked up at Helena and said in a flat voice, "You probably think that I'm lying, but I don't want to think about those matters today."
She was dying. She had no time to waste in rivalry with Helena. What was more, her conflict with Nolan was too complicated to resolve.
"I will leave Aelford City as soon as one month ends."
"Are you kidding me? You..."
A childish voice interrupted, "Mom..."
On the snow, a child in a one-piece down-filled coat stumbled and ran toward Peyton and Helena. Soon, he fell to the ground and began to crawl on the ground.
Chris crawled toward Peyton. Before Helena could realize what had happened, Peyton stepped forward and picked Chris up.
Chris seemed to be happy and tried to put his arms around Peyton's neck.
Helena snatched Chris back at the sight. Surprisingly, Chris kept crying in her arms. Peyton's heart ached, and instinctively she reached out to try to hug Chris and smooth him.
Helena ran away from her, and the yard was filled with Chris' cries. All of a sudden, Helena lost her balance. Just as she was about to fall to the ground with Chris in her arms, Peyton rushed over them.
An angry voice was heard, "What are you doing?"
